SKILL UPGRADATION & MAHILA COIR YOJANA (MCY)

About The Scheme:
This exclusive training program is designed to help women artisans working in the coir
sector enhance their skills. Through this program, two months of instruction in coir spinning
are provided. Candidates who complete this training receive a monthly stipend of Rs. 3000/-.
The Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) scheme encourages the
skilled artisans to apply for assistance in setting up coir enterprises.
One of the main initiatives under the Scheme Coir Vikas Yojana is the Mahila Coir Yojana
(MCY), formerly known as the Coir Plan (General) initiative. It offers a number of benefits,
including the development of domestic and international markets, skill development and
training, women’s empowerment, the creation and growth of jobs and entrepreneurship,
improved raw material utilization, trade-related services, welfare programs for coir workers,
etc. In particular, the Mahila Coir Yojana (MCY) seeks to empower women by offering
spinning equipment at discounted prices following suitable skill development training.

Assistance Pattern:

The stipend per trainee for skill development programmes would be limited to Rs.1000/- per month, and for training programmes lasting less than one month, the stipend will be prorated. The trainer’s pay would be limited to Rs. 6,000 per month. The training sponsoring agency would receive financial assistance of Rs.400/- per head each month to cover the operational costs of the program, such as raw materials, power charges, and other incidentals.
Under MCY, the Coir Board grants a one-time subsidy of 75% of the cost of motorised Ratt/motorised traditional Ratt, up to a maximum of Rs.7,500 for motorised Ratt and Rs.3,200 for motorised traditional and electronic Ratt.
