About The Scheme

The “Integrated Cold Chain and Value Addition Infrastructure” scheme aims to offer uninterrupted integrated cold chain and preservation infrastructure services from the farm gate to the end user. Pre-cooling, weighing, sorting, grading, and waxing facilities at the farm level, multi-product/multi-temperature cold storage, CA storage, packing facilities, IQF, blastfreezing in the distribution hub and reefer vans, and mobile cooling units for facilitating the distribution of non-horticulture, horticulture, fish/marine (apart from shrimp), dairy, meat, and poultry are all covered by this infrastructure development along the entire supply chain. The strategy permits project planning flexibility, with a focus on cold chain infrastructure
building at the farm level. Subject to meeting the eligibility requirements of the scheme rules, partnership/proprietorship firms, companies, corporations, cooperatives, self-help groups (SHGs), farmer producer organizations (FPOs), non-governmental organizations, central and state PSUs, etc., may establish the integrated cold chain project.

Assistance Pattern:

Under the scheme, technical civil works and suitable plant and machinery are eligible for up to Rs 10 crore in grant-in-aid, with the following restrictions: –

  • A grant-in-aid of 35% for General Areas and 50% for North East States, Himalayan States, ITDP Areas, and Islands will be given for storage infrastructure, which includes Pack House and Pre-cooling unit, ripening chamber, and transport infrastructure. This will cover the entire cost of plant and machinery as well as technical civil works.
  • Grant-in-aid will be given at 50% for General Areas and at 75% for North East States, Himalayan States, ITDP Areas, and Islands for value addition and processing infrastructure, including frozen storage and deep freezers related to and essential to the processing.
